thunder calls through waterfalls
It was truly an exhausting weekend. Today I went to Niagara Falls, NY, USA. We went to the Cave of the Winds, which is basically going right up to the falls. You descend 18 stories and exit onto a series of wooden staircases that you climb. At different levels you are a certain distance from the falls. One point is called the hurricane or something, and at that point you are basically right in front of the falls and there is water hitting you from all sides. It's truly an experience, although quite exhausting. I felt like I took a six hour long swim after we left, and I was soaked. All my makeup washed off, my hair got wet and tangled and my clothes were damp for a couple hours. Yet, it was so exciting. I cannot even describe in words the amazement at standing so close to the falls and looking up. It looked like a giant was tipping a huge bucket of water over us. This is definitely something that goes on the top 100 things to do before one dies list. We bought a special waterproof camera and case for this experience, and I have hundreds of pictures although I'm only posting three. We received special sandals, a bag to put our shoes in and ponchos before descending. For those of you who are interested, it's $11 per person, you get sandals and a poncho and it's honestly one of the most amazing experiences you'll ever receive.
